There are about 35 species in the cat family. The Puma is also known by the name cougar, mountain lion and american cheetah. Pumas are found all over North and South America from Nova Scotia in Canada to Patagonia in southern South America and although they are very secretive they are very adaptable and will inhabit various environments across the Americas. They are one of the larger big cats. They hunt, eat and prey upon a variety of birds, small to large mammals including prey as large as moose, deer and cattle.
